The Cuban activist Yamilka Lafita, known on social media as Lara Crofs, emotionally celebrated the fourth birthday of Amanda Lemus Ortiz, the Cuban girl whose case touched the hearts of thousands both inside and outside the Island.
“Some birthdays are too important to overlook because they are like life anniversaries, and this is exactly the case,” wrote Lafita on Facebook.
“Our beloved Amanda turned 4 years old, my brave little princess. We celebrate the miracle of watching you grow strong, radiant, and full of that energy that lights up everything around you.”
The activist, close to the family, recalled the collective effort that made the recovery of the little girl possible. “Just over two years ago, the Cuban community came together to give you a new chance, and look at you now, a curious, playful girl with that smile that this country denied you, overcoming every challenge with the strength of a warrior.”
Lafita highlighted the role of solidarity and love in Amanda's story, describing her as "the living reminder that unity can move mountains."
“May this new year bring you endless adventures, contagious laughter, and all the dreams your heart can imagine. You continue to be a symbol of life and resilience,” he expressed.
The story of Amanda Lemus has been followed by thousands of Cubans since her mother sought help on social media to save her life, due to the impossibility of accessing the urgently needed liver transplant in Cuba.
In March 2024, the girl received a liver transplant at La Paz University Hospital in Madrid, thanks to the solidarity of the Cuban community and the efforts of Spanish doctors.
Since then, Amanda has demonstrated a steady recovery, and her story continues to be a source of hope.
“God bless you, beautiful little one,” Lafita concluded. “You are a halo of hope for this land that saw you born.”
