A video posted on the popular Instagram account Only in Dade shows the unusual moment when a man falls into the sea in Miami while distractedly looking at his mobile phone.
The images, recorded by several witnesses of Cuban origin, show how the individual walks very close to the edge of a wall near the water, stumbling and looking at their phone, until they take a misstep and end up in the sea.
The incident was posted on January 1, on a cold morning in southern Florida, which has sparked a wave of humorous comments among users.
"The first mistake of the year came early," joked one of them, while others celebrated the "reality check" of the confused passerby with comments like "a bit of a wet start to the year" or "the foolishness was gone in an instant."
The man did not suffer any injuries and managed to get out on his own, although he was visibly soaked and surprised. The clip, which has already garnered thousands of views, humorously encapsulates the unpredictability of the start of the year in Miami: sun, beach… and dangerous distractions.
