The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, stated that the military operation by the United States in Venezuela "marks the downfall of a dictator's regime" and celebrated the capture of Nicolás Maduro early Saturday morning as "excellent news for the free world."
In statements to the Argentine channel LN+, Milei asserted that Maduro's arrest signifies the collapse of a regime that, he claimed, was sustained through electoral fraud and repression.
From his perspective, the fact not only has political implications but also reflects the characterization of the Venezuelan leader as a criminal actor with transnational connections.
The Argentine head of state described Maduro as a "narcoterrorist" and accused him of maintaining relationships with criminal organizations, armed groups, and governments allied with 21st-century socialism.
He stated that the Venezuelan regime would have financed and supported destabilizing activities in several countries in the region, in addition to operating drug trafficking and money laundering networks.
Milei stated that the capture of Maduro severely weakens the structure of the chavista power and considered that the scenario paves the way for Edmundo González Urrutia to assume the presidency.
“Maduro was an usurper of power,” he stated, dismissing the need for new elections and defending the legitimacy of the opposition leader.
The Argentine president also harshly criticized other governments in the region that avoided condemning chavismo or expressed reservations about the U.S. operation.
In that regard, he reiterated his alignment with Washington and anticipated "full support" from Argentina for the United States' position in international forums.
When asked about a possible continuation of the regime through figures like Diosdado Cabello or Delcy Rodríguez, Milei warned that if a “narcostate” persists, the United States will continue to respond in the same manner.
In his opinion, the operation marks a turning point that could accelerate the definitive collapse of chavismo.
The day was marked by President Donald Trump's announcement of the capture of Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, during a U.S. military operation in Caracas.
Trump stated that the United States will maintain control of Venezuela until a "fair and orderly transition," linking this presence to the reorganization of the oil industry with the involvement of American companies
Meanwhile, chavismo reported an aggression, and opposition sectors spoke of a historic turning point.
