Despite the political and military tension in Venezuela following the capture of Nicolás Maduro by U.S. forces, the Cuban medical brigade in Caracas has resumed its assistance efforts in several health centers throughout the capital, according to reports broadcasted by Televisión Cubana.
Cuban health professionals "have resumed their duties following the attack carried out by the United States against four Venezuelan regions," noted a report from the official media on Tuesday.
As expected, several doctors expressed their rejection of what they described as an "imperialist aggression" and reaffirmed their commitment to the Venezuelan people.
"We are fulfilling our duty, ready to continue serving the Venezuelan people until the very last moment," stated one of the volunteers.
Other workers of the medical mission described Maduro's detention as an "unjust kidnapping" and asserted that their presence in Venezuela is part of the "maximum fidelity of doctors and not bombs."
From Havana, the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) confirmed that it maintains constant communication with the brigade in Venezuela through the Central Unit of Medical Cooperation.
“Our collaborators are there, steadfast, in a country that is under attack and shaken,” declared an official from the organization, who specified that special attention has been given to the most affected states by the military offensive.
The state channel recalled that more than 165,000 Cuban health professionals have worked in Venezuela since 2003, as part of the Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement between Cuba and Venezuela, signed by Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez.
Over two decades, the so-called “white coat armies” have provided medical care in rural communities, marginalized neighborhoods, and hard-to-reach areas in exchange for oil or lucrative contracts in foreign currencies controlled by the Cuban regime.
In the midst of the crisis, the message from Havana was clear: the medical brigades will continue their work "in defense of life and solidarity among brotherly peoples," while the Cuban regime condemns the "armed intervention" of the United States in Venezuelan territory.
