The Cuban regime announced on Thursday the beginning of the return of some medical personnel deployed in Venezuela, a measure that the authorities are attempting to present as a previously planned logistical process.

Amid the political changes in Caracas following the capture of Nicolás Maduro, an ally of Havana, the Cuban Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) stated in a series of messages published on social media platform X about the return of the doctors.

He stated that during the last months of 2025, there were delays in the travel of health collaborators due to "difficulties with air transportation," the closure of Venezuelan airspace, and the suspension of international flights.

According to the official statement, once air connections between the two countries are restored, this week the transfer of Cuban medical personnel to the island would have resumed.

"The resumption marks the end of the interruption and the return to normalcy of the mobility cycle of Cuban medical collaboration in that nation, ensuring adherence to contractual deadlines and the right to rest for the professionals," the note indicates.

The MINSAP did not specify how many professionals are returning nor whether the measure will affect the continuity of Cuban medical services in Venezuela.

However, the announcement comes amidst a context marked by the regime change in Caracas and the increasing pressure from the United States on the new interim Venezuelan government to reduce the presence of foreign advisors and personnel, including Cuban contingents linked to security and strategic services.

Washington has demanded that the acting president Delcy Rodríguez expel the Cuban, Chinese, Russian, and Iranian military personnel from the country.

Although the Cuban regime insists that the return is solely due to operational reasons, analysts and social media users point out that the departure of medical personnel coincides with the loss of political support for chavismo and an increasingly hostile environment for Havana's presence in Venezuela.
