The Cuban opposition leader José Daniel Ferrer issued a strong warning to Miguel Díaz-Canel, urging him to "think carefully" and "anticipate" before being sacrificed by the leadership of Castroism.
In a video shared on social media, the founder of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) analyzed the current political situation of the regime and warned the leader about what he sees as an imminent collapse.
Think carefully about this, Canel, and stay ahead, he insisted, describing the Cuban leader as an “instrument” of the Castro family.
In Ferrer's criteria, Díaz-Canel was placed in power to absorb popular discontent and to serve as the “visible face of repression.” “They put you there so that the people vent all their anger and dissatisfaction against you,” said the opposition figure.
The activist recalled that the Cuban president has sometimes shown a lack of awareness regarding key decisions within the regime itself.
“Look at how you are a null person, someone who doesn’t matter, that you congratulated the Minister of Economy Alejandro Gil Fernández four days after he had been dismissed. You knew he had been dismissed for a reason, but you didn’t know he was being investigated and would end up accused of espionage for a foreign nation. You didn’t know that; otherwise, you wouldn’t have congratulated him,” Ferrer said.
"No one believes you when you refute Trump."
The opposition leader also questioned the recent statements made by Díaz-Canel, who denied that there are discussions with Washington after Donald Trump claimed that contacts with Cuba have begun.
“Now you publicly say that you are not in conversation with the United States, but no one believes you. If there are conversations... Who are the ones talking? Perhaps you don't know, and you're just contradicting Trump,” Ferrer stated.
In that regard, the opposition figure suggested that sectors of power in Havana might be secretly negotiating with Washington without the knowledge of the president himself.
“Maybe it’s Alejandro Castro Espín who is negotiating. (...) or it’s Óscar Pérez-Oliva Fraga. (...) Perhaps Castro Espín has already told the Americans: ‘Don’t worry, when they least expect it, I’ll let you know so you can take Canel and he will pay for it.’ Put him in the same cell as Maduro,” Ferrer joked, alluding to the fate of the former Venezuelan president after his capture in Caracas.
"Negotiate before it's too late."
Ferrer warned Díaz-Canel that he could meet the same fate as Nicolás Maduro if he does not take the initiative. "Negotiate," he advised, "ask Machi (Lis Cuesta) to get a phone from a friend or a buddy and communicate via Signal or WhatsApp. Negotiate with Marco Rubio. Prevent someone else from doing it while you end up in trouble."
The opponent reiterated that the regime "will fall soon," and that neither repression nor propaganda will be able to sustain it.
"The people can no longer endure this tyranny," he said, asserting that Cubans "see the true friend in the United States," especially in the current context due to its humanitarian support and recent aid for the victims of Hurricane Melissa.
Ferrer’s message arrives amidst rising tensions between Washington and Havana, following the Trump administration's confirmation of initial contacts with Cuba after the military operation in Venezuela that led to the capture of Nicolás Maduro.
The regime will fall, it will soon fall, concluded Ferrer, in a message that mixes political advice, personal warning, and a call to the conscience of Díaz-Canel himself.
