A 50-year-old Cuban lost his life on Tuesday, January 13, in a traffic accident that occurred in the province of Alicante. This incident once again shakes the Cuban migrant community in Spain and leaves a story marked by tragedy far from the island.
The incident occurred in the afternoon, around 6:14 p.m., on the CV-755 road, near the municipality of Callosa d'en Sarrià. According to sources from the Guardia Civil cited by El Español, the man was riding a motorcycle when he collided head-on with a van at kilometer 14.700 of the road.
Authorities confirmed that the victim was of Cuban origin, although they did not disclose his identity. The driver of the van, a 60-year-old Spanish man, was unharmed after the crash, according to information published by Todo Alicante.
The likely cause of the accident, according to initial investigations, seems to be that the motorcycle had crossed into the opposite lane during a curve.
A unit from the Urgent Medical Assistance Service (SAMU) and a Basic Life Support ambulance were dispatched to the location.
Healthcare personnel attempted for several minutes to resuscitate the motorcyclist using advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques and stabilization methods, but there was no response, and his death was ultimately confirmed, sources from the Emergency Information and Coordination Center reported as cited by local media.
The death of the Cuban has caused shock in the area and reignites the pain felt by many families in the diaspora, marked by sudden losses in foreign lands, where the quest for a better future sometimes ends tragically.
