A video posted on TikTok has touched thousands both within and outside the Cuban community. In the clip, shared by user @aallyss111, a woman shows her 90-year-old mother a video created with artificial intelligence featuring Donald Trump and Marco Rubio walking through a free Havana.
Upon seeing the images, the elderly woman cannot contain her emotion. “I hope I can go to Cuba before I die and see it free, free,” she says in a trembling voice. Her statement, brief and heartfelt, has touched the hearts of thousands of users who still dream of a different Cuba.
The video, accompanied by the song "Nuestro Día (Ya viene llegando)" by Willy Chirino, went viral quickly. "I felt a lump in my throat," commented one user. "My grandmother died with the same dream," wrote another from Miami. "May God allow this grandmother to see her land free," they added.
The reactions came quickly: “Of course, grandma, Cuba will be free very soon,” “Whoever doesn’t cry with this video is not Cuban,” or “She represents an entire generation that lost everything for freedom”, were some of the hundreds of messages.
The image of the elderly woman, her face filled with emotion, has become a symbol of hope. In just a few seconds, she reminded the world that the dream of seeing a free Cuba is still alive, even among those who have spent a lifetime waiting to return home.
