Venezuelan comedian George Harris did not hide his excitement during a recent show, where he celebrated with laughter and cheers the fall of Nicolás Maduro following his arrest in early January. Staying true to his style, the comedian transformed the political moment into an explosion of humor and hope for Venezuelans both inside and outside the country, as well as for Cubans.
“Good evening! No way! We did it, guys! No way! What a moment, guys. What a moment. No one can take this away from me. No one,” exclaimed Harris, waving a Venezuelan flag in front of an ecstatic crowd that was fervently waving more tricolor flags.
The comedian celebrated what he described as "a hopeful moment" and joked about how life changed his plans for a break: "I had taken the month of January off for vacation, but well, that's life. They said, 'You’ll see, that’s not happening because we're going to bring down the government,'" he said with laughter, eliciting applause and chuckles.
In his usual sarcastic tone, Harris took the opportunity to criticize those who "care more about Venezuelan oil than about the people," emphasizing that what truly matters is that Venezuelans want to live in freedom.
The comedian, known for his closeness to the Cuban audience, seized the opportunity to deliver a message of solidarity towards the island, stating that now is the time for Cuba to be free, which prompted an ovation from those present.
George Harris, who has made political satire one of his main theatrical tools, reflected the sentiments of millions of Venezuelans and Latin Americans who see in this new regional scenario an opportunity for change and democracy.
