An accident that occurred early Friday morning on the Interstate 395 bridge in Miami left six construction workers hospitalized after a large beam collapsed in a work area and sent them falling from a height of about 30 feet.

According to information from NBC Miami, the Miami Fire Rescue teams responded to an emergency call at a construction site located at 1490 NW 3rd Avenue, where several individuals were trapped after the incident.

Upon arriving at the site, rescuers confirmed that a head beam, a key element for supporting the structure, had collapsed during the night work on the I-395 project.

The impact caused the fall of the six workers, one of whom was trapped in the debris. Firefighters used ladder trucks and cutting tools to achieve their rescue in an operation that lasted several minutes and kept those working in the area on edge.

Five of the injured were transferred to the hospital under trauma alert, while the sixth was in stable condition, according to authorities cited by Telemundo 51, which reproduced and elaborated on the original information from NBC6 Miami in Spanish.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) clarified in a statement that there was no bridge collapse and that the accident occurred during a scheduled night construction operation related to formwork and concrete pouring. The agency confirmed that the structure of the bridge and the traffic lanes remained unaffected and that the work was taking place in a closed environment with no vehicular circulation.

Following the incident, some roads were temporarily closed to facilitate access for emergency teams. Hours later, the area was cleared and all lanes were reopened, with no fatalities reported.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced that it will begin an investigation to determine accountability and review safety conditions at the site, a process currently led by the FDOT.
