A spectacular accident in the exclusive neighborhood of Brickell, Miami, ended with a Ferrari wrecked against a light pole and a suspect arrested, after having stolen the luxury vehicle hours earlier in Miami Beach.
According to authorities, the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when the police received a report of a Ferrari theft in the area of Southwest Second Avenue and 17th Street.
Minutes later, the agents located the car and saw the suspect getting into the vehicle and fleeing at high speed.
During the chase, the driver lost control of the Italian supercar, crashed into a police patrol, and ultimately violently collided with a power pole at the intersection of Southwest 12th Street and Second Avenue, right in the heart of Brickell. The impact caused power outages in several buildings in the area.
“ I was sitting there and all my lights got really bright and then everything went dark,” said Robert Brand, a resident of the neighborhood. “I went out to my balcony and saw a car hitting the power lines.”
Images captured by Local 10 showed the bent light pole and electrical company workers attempting to restore service while the police secured the area.
The suspect, whose identity has not been revealed, was transferred to Jackson Memorial Hospital with a minor injury and will subsequently be admitted to the county jail.
No other injured individuals were reported, although the expensive Ferrari was left practically destroyed.
The authorities in Miami are continuing to investigate whether the theft of the Ferrari is linked to another luxury vehicle, a Rolls-Royce, which was also reported stolen that same night in Miami Beach.
