Activists are seeking to locate the family members of Gisela, a Cuban woman, presumably from Santiago de Cuba, who is surviving in conditions of extreme vulnerability in the city of Rivas, Nicaragua.
The woman survives without adequate medical care or institutional support, reported activist Magdiel Jorge Castro.
"The woman initially arrived in Managua, where she was the victim of a robbery that left her without resources. She later moved to Rivas, where her situation worsened: she suffered a miscarriage, was hit by a vehicle, and is now left with very limited mobility. Currently, she moves by dragging herself along the sidewalks near the hospital in that city," he reported.
The woman shows signs of mental distress, but when she is able to converse, she says her name is Gisela and claims to be from Santiago de Cuba, according to neighbors in the area.
Then, she enters a state of denial and stops talking, they reported.
"Supportive individuals have reached out to both the Cuban Embassy in Nicaragua and local health and social welfare institutions, but so far they have not received an effective response that ensures protection or care," the activist stated.
Gisela survives on charity, and her physical and emotional condition is becoming increasingly precarious.
"The goal of spreading her case is to try to locate any family member or acquaintance in Cuba who can recognize her and manage some form of humanitarian assistance or reunification. Gisela is currently wandering along the street leading to the Rivas hospital, in one of the most painful images of recent Cuban migration," the report concludes.
