The lifeless body of an individual was found this Sunday floating in a stream in the Cuabita neighborhood of Santiago de Cuba, with no official information available yet regarding their identity or the circumstances of the death.

According to reports shared on his Facebook profile by independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, the discovery took place near the bridge in that area, where neighbors saw the body floating face down, which prevented immediate visual identification.

Preliminarily, several residents indicated that it could be a man known as Juan Carlos, who had been sought since the previous day and lived in the brickworks area, although this information has not been officially confirmed.

The causes of death are currently unknown. It has not been determined whether the passing was due to drowning, an accident, or another cause, and the circumstances of the incident remain unclear.

Many people gathered at the site, waiting for the arrival of the competent authorities and personnel from Legal Medicine to proceed with the removal of the body and initiate the corresponding investigation.

The incident has raised concerns among the residents of the neighborhood, in a context marked by insecurity and a lack of official information.

In comments on social media, residents also alerted about other recent incidents, including violent robberies at nearby state establishments, which has heightened the sense of vulnerability within the community.

This discovery comes after another man was found dead on Friday near the bridge in the town of El Cristo, also in Santiago de Cuba, a case in which the identity of the victim and the cause of death have not been publicly confirmed either.

Residents of the area then reported delays in the authorities' response and the prolonged time the body remained at the scene.

In recent months, Santiago de Cuba has recorded several episodes of violent deaths and discoveries of bodies in public spaces, many of which are surrounded by official silence.

In August, residents of the Micro 1B neighborhood discovered human remains among the foliage, a finding that was later linked to a head found in a trash container in Micro III of the Abel Santamaría urban center, a crime for which a 60-year-old man was arrested.

In all these cases, official information has been scarce or nonexistent, fueling feelings of insecurity and helplessness among the city's residents.
