A new type of telephone scam is circulating in Cuba and has caused concern among citizens.

According to multiple reports, the scammers call their victims presenting themselves as officials from the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), most often holding the rank of "Lieutenant Colonel."

The regime's spokesperson profile “De Pinar Soy” warned on Facebook that, during the conversation, they claim that a close relative of the recipient is detained.

They also argue that it is necessary to immediately transfer a substantial amount of money to a card to cover an "emergency bail" or to avoid a more severe sentence.

Some Cubans, shocked and desperate over the alleged detention of a relative, may have already fallen into the trap.

Authorities have reiterated that MININT does not request money over the phone, nor does it handle bail payments through electronic transfers.

It is recommended to remain calm in the face of such calls and to verify any information directly with police stations or official authorities.

"We recommend: Approach the offices of the police or other institutions to avoid becoming a victim of a scam," emphasized the regime's spokesperson profile.
