The United States intercepted another oil tanker in the Caribbean on Tuesday as part of its offensive against Venezuelan crude oil exports under sanctions.

The operation targeted the Motor Vessel Sagitta and was carried out "without incidents" by U.S. military forces in support of the Department of Homeland Security, reported Southern Command.

The operation was conducted as part of Operation Southern Lance, a campaign that involves the Department of Defense, the Coast Guard, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Justice.

In a message posted on social media X alongside a video of the operation, Southern Command emphasized that the United States remains committed to halting any activity that violates sanctions in the Western Hemisphere.

"The capture of another oil tanker operating in defiance of the quarantine established by President Donald Trump demonstrates our determination to ensure that the only oil leaving Venezuela is that which is properly coordinated and legal," the official statement said.

According to U.S. authorities, the operation took place in the morning and was part of a joint deployment of elite forces in the Caribbean, aimed at reinforcing regional security and controlling maritime routes.

Southern Command insisted that the security of the American people is "paramount" and that these operations reflect Washington's commitment to stability in the region.

The interception of the Sagitta adds to a series of similar operations conducted in recent weeks against vessels linked to the so-called "phantom fleet" of Venezuela.

Since early January, U.S. forces have seized several tankers transporting Venezuelan crude oil in an alleged violation of sanctions, including the Olina and the Verónica.

These actions are part of the tightening of U.S. policy toward Venezuelan oil following the capture of ruler Nicolás Maduro on January 3 and the subsequent control of the South American country's energy exports.

So far, no details have been provided regarding the final destination of the vessel Sagitta or any possible actions against other vessels operating in the region. However, Washington has reiterated that it will maintain vigilance over any attempts to evade sanctions in the Caribbean.
