The Cuban doctor Alegmi, known and loved in Matanzas for his work at the Faustino Pérez Hospital and in the province's magnetic resonance imaging service, is fighting to regain mobility after a serious accident that occurred this Tuesday in the Cárdenas harbor.

The incident, which shocked the neighbors in the area, left the young man with severe injuries to his hip, according to Christian Arbolaez in a post that quickly went viral among the people of Matanzas.

"Alegmi is from Máximo Gómez. He is a doctor at Faustino Pérez and is the one who, day after day, performs MRI scans in Matanzas. He is one of those professionals who hardly ever make the news, but who are there when they are needed the most," he wrote.

The specialists who attended to him were clear: he needs urgent total hip replacement surgery to be able to walk again, alleviate the pain, and resume his daily life.

For that operation, specific medical components are required, which are difficult to obtain in Cuba: a total hip prosthesis model A-Esculap, uncemented variety, along with two acetabular components measuring 46×28 mm and 48×28 mm, and two 30 mm screws for fixation.

The femoral component is already available, but the acetabular components are still missing, which are essential for the surgery to be performed safely.

His family and friends have made an urgent call for solidarity both on and off the island to find the necessary parts.

"Today Alegmi is on the other side. The doctor who helped so many times now needs help," stated Arbolaez.

The family has made it clear that they are not seeking charity, but rather solidarity.

"A contact, a piece of information, or an action from anywhere in the world can make a difference," says the circulated message, which requests support from everyone who can help acquire the components.

The relatives explained that they are willing to pay whatever it takes to ensure the surgery is performed as soon as possible.

"May God allow everything necessary for a successful operation to come together. Strength and faith," concludes the text, which has generated hundreds of supportive messages on social media.
