Mexico spent over 100 million dollars to keep Cuban doctors in 2025



In 2025, Mexico spent 2,004 million pesos on services for Cuban doctors, benefiting companies such as Pigudi Gastronómico and BC CAP Development. The costs include food, lodging, and transportation.

The Mexican government spent around 2,004 million pesos (approximately 113 billion dollars) in 2025 on the food, transportation, and accommodation of the Cuban doctors working in that country.

Multimillion-dollar government contracts were awarded to the companies Pigudi Gastronómico, Comercializadora de la Península del Mayab, BC CAP Development, and Galbher, S.A. de C.V., according to public documents reviewed by the media Eme Equis.

The cost of lodging for doctors per day ranged between $1,550.00 and $2,100.00 MXN (between 90 and 120 dollars), depending on the bidder and the area.

The cost of three daily meals per person was estimated by the government to be between $1,100.00 and $1,800.00 MXN (approximately between 50 and 100 dollars).

The Mexican government also covered the costs for permanent transfers (round trips) and temporary services for extraction or relocation using vehicles ranging from sedans to tourist buses.

According to the report, Pigudi Gastronómico, S.A. de C.V. received $29,450.00 MXN for the cost of these services in the states of Baja California, Nayarit, Quintana Roo, San Luis Potosí, Sonora, and Tlaxcala, making it the most benefited company.

Likewise, BC CAP Development, S. de R.L. de C.V. charged $58,100.00 MXN for services in Baja California Sur and Sinaloa.

Comercializadora de la Península del Mayab, S.A. de C.V handled Campeche and Chiapas for $56,750.00 MXN.

Finally, Galbher, S.A. de C.V. provided services in Colima and Zacatecas, with unit prices of $53,700.00 MXN.

In October of last year, the newspaper Reforma revealed that the government of Mexico spends an average of 100,000 pesos per month (5,125 dollars) for each of the 3,101 Cuban doctors contracted.

The monthly salary of health workers amounts to 27,000 pesos (over 1,300 dollars), which is deposited into a state-owned company in Havana; in addition to the average of 77,394 pesos per month (around 4,000 dollars) that the Mexican government spends on each one for transportation, food, and accommodation expenses.
