Autoridades locales y especialistas de la empresa estatal Cuba Petróleo (Cupet) investigan la presencia de gas natural en la comunidad montañosa de Jobo Arriba, en el municipio de Imías, provincia de Guantánamo, tras un hallazgo que ha despertado el interés de vecinos y técnicos.

The information was shared by Yaniet Cobas Moreira, an official from the local government of Guantánamo, who explained that a multidisciplinary team, along with specialists from Cupet, arrived in the area to collect samples and analyze them in the laboratory in order to determine the nature and potential of the gas found.

"With the intention of delving deeper into the gas found in Jobo Arriba, we arrived at this community, accompanied by a team from Cuba Petróleo. Several samples were taken to be analyzed in a laboratory and to issue the relevant considerations accordingly," wrote Cobas Moreira on his Facebook profile.

The official spokesperson Carlos Pérez confirmed the exploration as well, highlighting that it was a joint effort between scientific institutions, local authorities, and the community, aimed at assessing the characteristics of the gas and determining its potential utilization.

Según Pérez, los resultados de laboratorio permitirán emitir posteriormente las consideraciones técnicas pertinentes y valorar si el hallazgo tiene potencial energético o industrial.

The event, in addition to its research-oriented nature, was presented by the authorities as an exercise in community participation and the connection between science, innovation, and government management.
