A failure in one of the manufactured gas production plants in Havana, which occurred early on Wednesday morning, left five municipalities without service, according to official sources.
The Manufactured Gas Company reported on its WhatsApp channel that at 4:00 a.m. on November 12, a breakdown occurred at production plant No. 1, which “forced the service to be halted” in Old Havana, Central Havana, Cerro, 10 de Octubre, and Plaza de la Revolución.
The state entity stated that "the situation was immediately assessed and efforts were made to resolve it," but did not provide details on what the issue was that prevented the supply of fuel to the residents of those areas.
Hours after the breakdown, in an informative note published on the Facebook profile of Unión Cuba Petróleo (Cupet), the Manufactured Gas Company stated that the service had already begun to be gradually restored in the five municipalities.
The halt in fuel delivery has generated dissatisfaction among residents in those areas, who were also affected this Wednesday by power outages and a lack of water in numerous neighborhoods.
As of the time of publishing this note, it has not been disclosed whether service has been fully restored across the entire network.
The problems with the supply of manufactured gas in the capital are part of the already chronic energy crisis impacting Cuba, which is also affected by the ongoing deficit of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
The frequent breaks in the network that distributes manufactured gas in Havana and the shortage of LPG that is dispensed in the so-called small cylinders, in that and the rest of the provinces, exacerbate the critical situation of domestic fuel, which continues to impact the tables of Cubans, while the authorities persist in not providing a real solution to the problem.
