An immigrant living in Minneapolis, identified only as “Martín” for safety reasons, stated that he has spent nearly a month confined to his home due to the panic caused by the recent raids conducted by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The man explained to the network Telemundo that he remains confined and receives food thanks to social organizations that help him cope with the situation. He stated that any noise in the neighborhood puts him on high alert, in an environment of increasing tension among the city’s migrant communities.
Martín lives near the area where on January 7th, Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old American woman, was shot by an ICE agent during an operation against irregular migration.
The case, which is still under investigation, has sparked protests and widespread political controversy across the country.
Local authorities believe that the officer fired unjustifiably, while the federal agency maintains that he acted in self-defense.
The death of Good has intensified fear among immigrants in Minneapolis, many of whom are avoiding going out for fear of new ICE raids.
