A student was stabbed in Santiago de Cuba while returning home after leaving school, an incident that has raised concerns among families and the educational community in the eastern part of the country.
The aggression occurred in the municipality of Songo La Maya, when the young woman, a student at IPU Elvira Cape, was on her way home.
According to the General Directorate of Education in Santiago de Cuba, the attack was carried out with a bladed weapon by an individual not associated with the educational institution.
In an official statement, the educational authorities described the incident as "regrettable" and assured that the student is receiving medical attention and is reported to be stable, although they did not provide details about the severity of the injuries or the identity or capture of the assailant.
“The educational sector vehemently condemns these acts of violence that are incompatible with our values of humanism, civic duty, and respect for life,” stated the announcement, in which they also promised to keep the public informed about the young woman's clinical progress.
Beyond the official report, the case reignites concerns about the safety of students outside the school environment, especially during their daily commutes between school and home, a time when they are left unprotected.
In a context marked by rising violence and a sense of insecurity in various parts of the country, episodes like this directly impact Cuban families, who watch with fear as even the youngest are not safe during the most basic routine: returning home after school.
So far, no details have been provided regarding police investigations or possible arrests, as the community awaits answers and, above all, guarantees that incidents like this do not happen again.
