Doctor Luis Álvarez Lamin, a recognized specialist at the "Hermanos Ameijeiras" Clinical Surgical Hospital in Havana, passed away in the early morning of Saturday, January 24, 2026, as reported by the Ambulatory Center of that institution.
The doctor served for many years as the Head of Service and professor in the specialty of Speech Therapy and Phoniatrics, and was the father of Cuban actress Ariana Álvarez, according to the message released.
In the published statement, the Ameijeiras Outpatient Center expressed "deep sorrow" at the doctor's passing, describing him as a highly regarded professional and a reference figure due to his career within the hospital.
The note adds that Dr. Álvarez Lamin left an "indelible mark" on the center due to his commitment, ethics, and teaching vocation, highlighting his role as an educator within the institution.
The hospital's message also expressed condolences to family members, friends, colleagues, and students, and accompanied actress Ariana Álvarez and her family in their mourning “with respect, affection, and solidarity.”
Hundreds of people have expressed their condolences for such a tragic loss and assured that Ariana accompanied her father during the course of an illness that has not been disclosed.
