Without changes, this Tuesday the informal currency market in Cuba surprisingly started the day. It was a day of stability for the three reference currencies in the island's economic landscape.

At 7:00 a.m. on this January 27, the dollar holds at 485 CUP that it reached on the previous day.

Also unchanged is the euro, which today is traded again at 530 CUP. The European currency marks its sixth day without change, according to the daily report from the independent media elTOQUE.

The Freely Convertible Currency (MLC), whose value has fluctuated frequently in recent days, remains today at the 400 CUP it reached the day before.

Exchange Rate Evolution

Exchange rate today 01/27/2026 - 7:40 a.m. in Cuba:

Exchange rate of the dollar USD to CUP according to elTOQUE: 485 CUP.

Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP according to elTOQUE: 530 CUP.

Exchange rate of MLC to CUP according to elTOQUE: 400 CUP.

According to the models from the Observatory of Coins and Finance of Cuba (OMFi), the projections for January anticipated an upward trend:

Dollar: central projection of 465 CUP (range between 454 and 480 CUP).

Euro: projection of 505 CUP (range between 479 and 515 CUP).

MLC: estimated at around 427 CUP (ranging between 398 and 440 CUP).

As January comes to a close, the current values of the two main currencies — with the dollar priced at 485 CUP and the euro at 530 CUP — reveal that both currencies exceeded expectations.

Such a scenario reinforces the perception of a market under pressure from uncertainty and distrust in the Cuban peso.
