Spanish europarliamentarians Jorge Martín Frías and Hermann Tertsch, from the Patriots for Europe group, denounced this Tuesday in the European Parliament that the Cuban regime is “a machinery of terror” and the epicenter of terrorism in Latin America, during the presentation of the report The Many Faces of Terrorism in Cuba, prepared by the CEU-CEFAS center.
The event, held in Brussels, brought together researchers and experts from various countries to analyze the role of Castroism in networks of violence, drug trafficking, and political destabilization in the region, reported La Gaceta de la Iberosfera.
According to the presented report, the Cuban regime has maintained historical ties with armed groups and terrorist organizations, from the 1960s to the present day.
During his speech, MEP Jorge Martín Frías stated that “terrorism has been the instrument that has turned Cuba into a machinery of terror,” and he urged the European Union to take responsibility in the face of that threat.
"Cuba should concern us and engage us; it is a matter of security for our nations,” he warned.
Martín urged Brussels to adopt a firm stance similar to that of former President Donald Trump regarding Venezuela.
"The money from Europeans should not fund groups that threaten our security. Evil can be defeated," he said.
The MEP described Cuba as "the head of the snake that has spread throughout Ibero-America" and emphasized that "there are no episodes of violence in America that are not related to the military apparatus of Cuba."
He added that Castroism has turned into an "international network of communist criminality" and accused the PSOE of politically collaborating with the Cuban embassy in Europe: "The PSOE coordinates its actions in Parliament with the Cuban embassy. This is a very serious fact."
Martín also demanded the immediate suspension of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between the EU and Havana, arguing that the regime has not fulfilled any of its democratic commitments.
"All the European money ends up in the hands of the rogue groups that intimidate the Cuban population," he denounced.
The report from the Center for Studies, Training, and Social Analysis (CEU-CEFAS) reviews six decades of links between Cuba and international terrorism, from the bombings in Havana in 1957 to alliances with groups such as the Colombian ELN, the Italian Red Brigades, and Al-Fatah.
The journalist Paloma Corbí, president of CEU-CEFAS, reaffirmed that the goal of the study is to “give a voice to the peoples suffering under communist regimes,” while John Suárez, director of the Center for a Free Cuba, revealed that Cuban officials collaborated with the Medellín Cartel.
"Cuba continues to facilitate routes for the trafficking of weapons, drugs, and people, with the approval of an unpunished communist elite," he declared.
Researcher Mike González from the Heritage Foundation added that "the United States wants to distance itself from this adversary, but the European Union remains the last institution that supports the regime," and he even linked Castroism to "recent episodes of violence in Minnesota."
For his part, Matías Jove from the Spanish Association Cuba in Transition stated that Cuban intelligence provided operational support to the terrorist group ETA.
"The connection between ETA and Cuba is a fact. It facilitated operations such as kidnappings. How much more evidence does the European Union need to classify it for what it is: a state sponsor of terrorism?" he asked.
In his X account, the MEP Hermann Tertsch referred to the Cuban regime as “the chief promoter of terrorism, violence, and subversion throughout America” and held the European Union responsible for maintaining ties with “a criminal dictatorship.”
"It is outrageous that Europe continues to finance the regime. The dictatorship will fall very soon after the collapse of the Venezuelan regime," he wrote.
Tertsch concluded that Castroism has been “the first to use drug trafficking for subversive purposes” and celebrated that “Trump has finally seen the evidence that Cuba is the radiating center of evil on the continent.”
