Cuba prepares to face an unprecedented cold wave that will impact the entire national territory starting this weekend, with temperatures potentially dropping to 5 degrees in areas of the interior and central regions of the country, suggesting that the cold weather will indeed be felt in the Caribbean island in the coming days.

The meteorologist Raydel Ruisánchez reported on his profile on Facebook that since last Tuesday, much of the Cuban territory has been affected by a very cold and dry air mass, which has established winter conditions, especially in the western region.

He explained that this situation will continue over the next few days and that on Saturday, January 31, a new cold front will arrive, which will move across the entire island and bring with it an even colder air mass.

According to Ruisánchez, this new system will cause an additional drop in temperatures, intensifying the already existing winter conditions.

He clarified that no significant precipitation is expected, but there will be northwest winds with speeds between 25 and 40 kilometers per hour and higher gusts.

These winds will extend eastward on Sunday, generating strong swells along the northwestern coast, with waves of up to four meters that could cause flooding in low-lying areas of the shoreline, including the Havana seafront.

The specialist added that from February 1 to 3, very cold days are expected, with temperatures below the historical average.

Highs could range between 16 and 19 degrees in the western region, while lows could drop to around 5 degrees in some areas of the interior and southern parts of the west and center of the country.

For his part, the meteorologist Ariel Maturell Salina noted that from Tuesday, January 27, until February 3, a sustained winter period will begin, with a significant drop in temperatures across the entire national territory.

He indicated that this situation is due to the intrusion of an extremely cold air mass over the central and eastern United States and the Gulf of Mexico, which will be reinforced over the weekend by even colder air coming from Canada.

Maturell emphasized that even states in the southern United States, the Yucatán Peninsula, and Cuba will experience one of the most intense cold spells in recent years, with abnormally low temperatures for these latitudes.

In the case of Cuba, it was noted that minimum temperatures could drop below 10 degrees in much of the country, with afternoon highs barely reaching 19 or 20 degrees.

The specialist explained that, depending on the cloud cover conditions in Florida and Cuba, temperatures near historical records could be recorded, or even lower in some areas of the country.

He warned that in areas of the western and central interior of the country, where temperatures drop below 10 degrees, people should take proper precautions, as these temperatures pose a risk of mild to moderate hypothermia for those exposed without adequate protection.

Both meteorologists indicated that they will continue to provide updates on the development of the event through their social media and information channels.
