Ferrer reacts to MINREX statement: "They are liars and that offer is pure hypocrisy."

The Cuban opposition leader José Daniel Ferrer reacted strongly to the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in which the Cuban regime claims it does not pose a threat to the security of the United States and expresses its willingness to cooperate with Washington in areas such as the fight against terrorism and regional security.

In a video posted on social media, Ferrer questioned the credibility of the official message and accused the regime of resorting to a double standard in an attempt to ease the pressure from the U.S. administration. "I find the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Castro-communist tyranny that is seeking dialogue, closeness, cooperation, understanding, and even love with the administration of Donald Trump," he stated.

Ferrer rejected the notion that the regime could present itself as a committed actor in the fight against terrorism. “The Castro-communist regime has always been terrorist, and the worst terrorism is what they continue to practice against the Cuban people,” he stated, referring to the repression of citizens, political prisoners, and the most vulnerable sectors of the population.

In that context, he mentioned the acts of harassment against the U.S. chargé d'affaires in Cuba, Mike Hammer, that occurred after a repudiation event in Trinidad, as an example of the actual conduct of power in Havana. “That is aggressive and uncivilized behavior,” he stated, referring to the shouts and insults directed at the American diplomat.

The opponent emphasized that the MINREX statement does not include specific commitments regarding human rights. "They never talk about being willing to respect the rights and fundamental freedoms of the Cuban people," he denounced.

Ferrer stated that the U.S. administration is aware of this contradiction. "Donald Trump, Marco Rubio, this administration knows that they are liars, frauds, who make commitments, who offer things, who say and never deliver," he claimed, adding that the regime "remains an enemy of the security of the United States" and "a threat to peace in the world."

In his opinion, the offer of cooperation does not reflect a genuine desire for change but rather a political strategy. “It is nothing more than another move to buy time,” he said, warning that the regime aims to weaken Washington's pressure and reach the end of the current presidential term in the United States without implementing substantial reforms.

The leader of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) insisted that no gesture from the regime can be credible until verifiable changes occur. “Until they release all political prisoners, until they end the repression, until they respect the basic rights of the Cuban people, nothing they do can be credible,” he stated.

Ferrer’s statements occur within a context of growing tension between Havana and Washington, marked by the regime's attempt to project an image of rapprochement following new sanctions and measures announced by President Donald Trump.

Days earlier, Ferrer had publicly endorsed the pressure measures adopted by Washington, labeling the Cuban regime as an “enemy of freedom” and pointing out that the sanctions are not aimed at the people, but at the dictatorship.

In the final part of his most recent message, Ferrer called for the unity of Cubans inside and outside the island to confront the regime. “We must truly join forces, with sincerity, without lies, without hypocrisy, to bring down the tyranny,” he stated, before concluding with a direct message to those in power in Havana: “Enough with the repression, enough with the serious violations of human rights, enough with misery, enough with hypocrisy, enough with lies.”
