A billboard featuring a large image of the Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel was found covered in black paint in Santiago de Cuba, an incident that once again raises alarms about the growing social discontent on the Island.

The incident occurred in the dead of night and during a new blackout, at the intersection of Trocha and Avenida 12 de Agosto.

The communicator Yosmany Mayeta clarified on Facebook that this is the second time that the same sign has been attacked, resulting in a significant police presence.

"According to witnesses at the scene, after the incident, the area quickly filled with black beret police and plainclothes officers, in a disproportionate display that contrasts with the lack of responses to the real problems facing the population: endless blackouts, shortages, hunger, and desperation," he denounced.

Mayeta recalled that the black paint doesn’t just cover a sign; it reflects the exhaustion, rage, and loss of fear of a people who no longer believe in propaganda or slogans.

"While the country is dimming, discontent ignites," he emphasized.

This type of action has been publicly promoted by opposition leader José Daniel Ferrer, who on social media has called on Cubans to draw graffiti against the government and vandalize official billboards.

In a message shared on Facebook, Ferrer shared images of photos of Raúl and Fidel Castro defaced, along with signs against Díaz-Canel and the Communist Party.

"With a small contribution that you make, if thousands do the same, we will free Cuba. Right now, you can put up your graffiti or poster for freedom and deface a communist fence," he wrote.

Ferrer also requested that participants document the actions, make a video, and send it via WhatsApp to +1 305 970 8858.

"Even the military are doing it. The good Cubans, intelligent and brave, want to contribute because they don't want to have to lower their heads when tyranny falls," he specified.

According to him, the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) is running the campaign "Paint your graffiti, manage a communist billboard," to damage the billboards featuring images of Fidel and Raúl Castro.

"Join these actions for a free, democratic, just, and prosperous Cuba. (...) If you don't fight, don't complain about the misery, the blackouts, and the injustices you suffer in our beloved homeland seized by Castroism," he stated.
