The Cuban influencer Esmeralda Deulofeu experienced two days of distress after her Instagram account, which has over 300 thousand followers, was hacked and used to post false content. The attackers spread edited images of the young woman to promote alleged links to explicit content, causing confusion among her followers.
"Many are worried. My account was hacked. Since last night, I haven't had access, and I haven't slept at all," explained the content creator in a video after losing control of her profile. Hours later, when she managed to recover it, she shared her relief: "I can't express the joy. I'm super happy. Two days dealing with this, but I was able to recover it. Grateful to everyone who supported me and debunked the false posts. Obviously, it wasn't me."
During the hack, screenshots and messages circulated featuring her image linked to suspicious links such as “check out my latest content.” Esmeralda reported that those posts were manipulated using real photos of her. “Most people knew it wasn’t me, but there were some who actually believed it. I have no need to go viral in that way; I’ve always tried to keep my account clean,” she clarified.
Reactions on social media were swift: while some defended her and sent messages of support, others commented without knowing the context of the hacking. "You are a good girl, and you’ve earned what you work for," wrote a follower, while others asked, "Who is she?" or joked about the uproar that ensued.
With her account now verified and secure, Esmeralda closed the topic by thanking those who supported her. “I spent two days trying to recover my account. I have everything fully verified now. Take care of your social media, because sometimes others tell you who you are, but I know who I am and my audience does too,” she concluded.
