The video of Melisa Delgado (@meli_nail_01), a Cuban mother who said goodbye to her young son at an airport in Cuba, has moved thousands of people on social media. In the images, she is seen kneeling to hug him tightly before letting him go, while she writes: “I thought I was strong until I had to say goodbye and let my baby go at that airport.”
Melisa decided to voluntarily leave the United States after being detained for 70 days by ICE. It was a tough decision, made with a broken heart, but considering the future of her family. Now, the couple lives apart and their son returned to the United States with his father. “Saying goodbye to my baby was the hardest thing I experienced in my 26 years,” she confessed.
The moment, captured amidst tears, shows a mother trying to be strong while her son, not fully understanding, clings to her. "My heart was slowly breaking as I watched him walk away", wrote Melisa, who hopes they will reunite soon. “God will reward me for all the tears and suffering,” she added.
In the comments, hundreds of people sent messages of support and empathy. "So much suffering, it broke my heart," wrote one user. "Only mothers know what it feels like to hurt," commented another. There were also those who criticized her, but the majority highlighted her bravery and the strength with which she has faced a situation that no one would want to live through.
Melisa had already shared other difficult moments from her story, including her detention and days of uncertainty. In a more recent video, she showed her son reuniting with his father in the United States after three months apart, a scene that brought some relief amidst so many tears.
