The pitcher Joseph Contreras, son of former Cuban star José Ariel Contreras, has been included in Brazil's final roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, as reported by journalist Francys Romero.

Joseph, regarded as one of the best young talents in the South American country, is eligible to play for Brazil because his mother was born in that nation.

"The prospect pitcher Joseph Contreras has been included in Brazil's final roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic," Romero revealed.

A tournament where his father was not present

The participation of Joseph will hold special significance, as he will compete in one of the few international tournaments in which his father, José Ariel Contreras, a historic figure in Cuban baseball and a Major League champion, did not participate.

Joseph will be on the Brazilian roster before turning 18, establishing himself as one of the country's most promising talents for the future.

High-level projection towards the MLB Draft

The young pitcher is seen as an elite arm for the upcoming MLB Draft in June, thanks to his power and potential as a starter.

Among its standout tools are: fastballs exceeding 95 miles per hour, a complete repertoire in development, and a projected starter profile in Major League Baseball.

His inclusion represents an important boost for Brazil, which will aim to pull off an upset in the World Baseball Classic with an emerging generation of talent.
