A young Cuban shared on TikTok how she managed to say "goodbye to blackouts" thanks to a solar panel system installed by her father in their home, an alternative that more and more families are adopting in light of the collapse of the electrical system in Cuba.
"Thanks to God and my dad, today I can say goodbye to the blackouts in Cuba," begins the video posted by the user @cuba.9998. In her testimony, the young woman explains that the blackouts affect not only rest and daily work but also the emotional stability of those living on the island.
"We all know what blackouts mean: no light, no fan, no ability to work or rest... Having this doesn’t allow me to forget the reality, because even if my house is lit up, the blackouts continue, and no one is going to change that," she stated.
The system installed in her home includes three solar panels that capture energy, a 150-amp battery, and an inverter that manages household consumption. “It provides enough energy for everything during the day, and at night, we keep the freezer, fans, lights, and television running,” the young woman detailed.
Although he clarified that his intention was not to brag, he wanted to share the experience as a way to demonstrate possible solutions in the face of the energy crisis. “Solar panels are not a luxury; they are a necessity,” he said proudly, acknowledging that not all Cubans can afford a similar system.
The video has gone viral on social media, where many users congratulated her for finding a solution to the constant power outages, while others lamented that the population has to resort to private solutions due to the regime's inability to provide a stable service.
In recent months, blackouts have intensified throughout Cuba due to a lack of fuel, the deterioration of thermal power plants, and the poor management of the state energy system, leaving millions of people in the dark for long hours each day.
