"What would you like to do when you can return to Cuba?" The question, simple yet filled with emotion, stirred a torrent of feelings among several Cuban artists who now live outside the island in Miami but do not forget their homeland.
Roberto San Martín was the first to respond and confessed, "I would like to visit my grandparents' grave, as I wasn't able to say goodbye to them. I feel I have that debt to fulfill."
For Yuliet Cruz, the ideal return revolves around simple pleasures: “Oh, going with my family to the Malecón, talking to the sea, enjoying, celebrating, having a good time, getting together with friends, seeing people, greeting each other from afar.”
The young actor Jeffry Batista dreams of traveling the country from one end to the other: “To rent a car and travel all over Cuba to immerse myself in its culture and beauty.”
Albertico Pujol imagines it with a dose of affection for someone he holds dear: “I would get off at the airport. There, Ernesto Giménez would surely be waiting for me. And right there, with my suitcase in hand, I would say to him, ‘Are you still here, man? Come on, let’s go.’ I would bring him over here two minutes later.”
The actor Luis Manuel Bangan reminisced about a part of his life that he cannot forget: “I would return to the balcony of the house where I grew up, which is no longer my home, where I had so many beautiful moments with myself, and now that I am another person, I would like to relive it.”
Susana Pérez, one of the most beloved actresses by the Cuban public, did not hide her nostalgia: “Driving along the Malecón as the sun sets, there by the sea, that sunset looks stunning.”
The theater director Yusnel Suárez captured the longing of many: “To go down the ramp, to experience what it feels like to live in a free, prosperous country.”
While Yerlín Pérez got carried away by sweet memories: “So, all along 23, I’m going to stop at Coppelia. I’m going to go in, have a nice, soft ice cream, and I hope that at that moment there will be all the flavors.”
The video concluded with an uplifting phrase from Susana Pérez: "But do you know what the most beautiful thing is? That’s going to happen soon, sooner than we can imagine."
They all are part of the cast and direction of the play "Fresa y Chocolate," which is currently being presented at the Teatro Trail in Miami and has received numerous applause and cheers from the audience for its outstanding performances.
