A young Cuban showcased on TikTok the daily cost of building a room in her house, a project that, as she recounted, has involved considerable expenses for materials, food, and services.
"In the morning, they brought me the bricks, which cost me 400 for 41 dollars," explained the user @briana5254 in her video, where she details each expense incurred during a day of work on the site.
The young woman shared that she hired a group of architects who not only design spaces but also carry out the construction through their own building crew. “They measured the entire space to then design the room for me and create a total budget,” she explained.
During the day, he also had to buy a bag of cement for 7,000 Cuban pesos (about 14 dollars at the informal exchange rate) due to the shortage of the material. “This price isn’t always the same; it can be cheaper or more expensive depending on the location,” he added.
In his expense list, he also included six bags of rice for 2,600 Cuban pesos (approximately 5 dollars) and a visit to the hair salon that cost him 1,000 Cuban pesos, equivalent to about 2 dollars.
"The room is already quite advanced, but there is still a lot more to do," noted the young woman, who gave an honest glimpse into the economic effort that improving a home represents for a Cuban family amid the current economic crisis.
The comments on her video were filled with reactions from users who compared the prices to those in other countries and lamented the high cost of living on the island. “Let me know in the comments what you thought of the prices overall and how it is in your country,” concluded the creator.
