The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Óscar Pérez-Oliva Fraga, stated this Friday on the official program Mesa Redonda that the Cuban government did not come to that space "to make justifications."

Instead, it was stated that they had gone to that space to inform the people about measures to confront the “acute fuel shortage” in the country.

"We are not here to make excuses. We want to minimize the impact on the Cuban population," he said during the appearance.

The intervention focused on explaining the government's plan in response to the energy crisis.

In this context, Pérez-Oliva stated that "it is the moment" to implement a set of measures and assured that electricity generation is being maintained with domestic oil, as well as services in hospitals.

He also stated that municipalities must produce as part of the internal response to the situation.

In his statements, the leader insisted that the Government acknowledges internal problems in addition to external factors.

"We do not want to justify ourselves with the blockade; there is a set of internal deficiencies," he noted.

Pérez-Oliva added that, despite the contingency, the State is maintaining its preparedness for the defense and protection of the economic activities that generate foreign currency, priorities that—according to his presentation—are upheld alongside the energy contingency measures.

Although he argued that it would not be justified with the block, he stated that "oil shipments from Venezuela have been halted as a result of Maduro's capture," and the appearance was presented as a public information exercise to explain decisions given the current situation.

In the same intervention, he indicated that municipalities should promote local capacities in response to the current situation.

The official also mentioned that the country is maintaining preparations for defense and the protection of economic activities that generate foreign currency, as part of the priorities established in the current scenario.

Finally, after the presentation on Mesa Redonda, the leaders would have contact with the public to explain the measures implemented as part of the government plan in response to the fuel crisis.
