Republican Congressman Mario Díaz-Balart stated on Monday that the regime in Cuba has never been so weak and warned that President Donald Trump is not willing to tolerate a government he described as terrorist and anti-American just 90 miles from the United States.
In a message published on the social network X, Díaz-Balart asserted that Trump has made his stance clear with a recent executive order and suggested that anyone still doubting the seriousness of the president should ask Nicolás Maduro, recalling the Venezuelan precedent.
The legislator added that if he were in Havana, he would seriously consider his options, emphasizing that he had already made similar warnings in the past and underscoring that President Trump does not take threats lightly when it comes to hostile regimes in the region.
In this context, Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar also issued a strong warning about the situation in Cuba on Monday and openly urged people not to travel to the island, warning that a regime in its final hours is unpredictable and dangerous.
Salazar stated that in Cuba there is no electricity, food, or medicine, and that the population is facing constant blackouts, hunger, and repression amid a crisis exacerbated by fuel shortages.
He also warned that many airlines are canceling flights to and from the island, which could leave travelers stranded for weeks or longer.
The congresswoman issued the warning in a post on X, in reaction to news reports that collected testimonies from passengers arriving in Miami from Havana, who described the current conditions as the worst they have ever experienced and expressed fear about what may happen next.
Díaz-Balart and fellow congressman Carlos Giménez have insisted in recent days that the Trump administration should implement a zero tolerance policy and total pressure against the Cuban regime, arguing that it is at its weakest point.
Both lawmakers have indicated that this pressure should encompass economic, diplomatic, and political spheres, and they have argued that it is the only effective way to force changes in a system that, they claim, has been upheld for decades through repression and a lack of freedoms.
