The governor of Puerto Rico, Jenniffer González Colón, reaffirmed on Monday her support for the leadership of President Donald Trump and asserted that policies will be promoted from the island to strengthen national security and stability in the Caribbean, including pressing on Cuba and the Western Hemisphere.
In a message posted on social media, the leader thanked Cuban-American Congressman Carlos Giménez for his words of support and emphasized her commitment to the values that, she stated, make the American nation great.
"As the governor of Puerto Rico, I reaffirm my commitment to the values that make our nation great and to the strong leadership of the president to protect our security and stability in the Caribbean and throughout the Western Hemisphere," González stated.
The governor added that Puerto Rico will continue to promote an agenda focused on strengthening national security, combating drug trafficking, and fostering stability throughout the region, without providing further details on specific measures.
The statements come amid growing geopolitical tensions in the Caribbean and a greater emphasis by the Trump administration on regional security and pressure on governments deemed hostile by Washington.
Her words come after González Colón declared her support for any action by President Donald Trump to “liberate” Cuba, even if it meant a military intervention from Puerto Rican territory.
“I don’t have any information about that (intervention plan in Cuba from Puerto Rico), but anything that supports our military forces and the public policy of the president (Donald Trump), of course I will be in favor,” he said in statements cited by Telemundo Puerto Rico.
