The death of American actor James Van Der Beek has sparked a wave of reactions among Cubans, many of whom fondly remember him for his iconic role in the popular series "Dawson's Creek," which aired for years on television in the Island and became a touchstone for an entire generation.
The family announced the passing this Wednesday through Instagram with an emotional message: “Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed away peacefully this morning. He faced his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, his love for humanity, and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now, we ask for peaceful privacy as we mourn our dear husband, father, son, brother, and friend.”
Following the news, friends of the family launched a GoFundMe campaign titled “Support for the Family of James Van Der Beek,” stating that after a long and brave battle with cancer, the actor passed away on February 11, 2026, leaving behind his wife Kimberly and their six children.
The text adds that during their illness, the family faced not only emotional challenges but also a significant financial burden resulting from medical treatments. "Their generosity will help cover essential living expenses, pay bills, and support the children's education," the platform indicates.
As of the time this note was written, the fundraising had surpassed one and a half million dollars and had received over 33,000 donations.
