The President of the United States, Donald Trump, responded this Friday with a brief statement to a question regarding the possibility of military attacks in Latin America, amid a geopolitical landscape marked by the transition in Venezuela.

During a brief exchange with the press outside the White House, a journalist asked him, “Are you considering ground attacks against Mexico, Colombia, and Venezuela?” Trump replied without providing details: “Don’t worry about that”.

The video was shared by the account Rapid Response. Trump also mentioned a possible visit to Venezuela, although he did not specify when it would take place.

The statements were made on the same day that the U.S. administration confirmed the lifting of sanctions on the Venezuelan oil sector.

The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued a general license authorizing companies such as Repsol, Chevron, BP, Eni, and Shell to reactivate operations for the exploration, production, and marketing of crude oil and gas.

The decision represents the largest easing of the sanctions imposed in 2019 and comes after the detention of Nicolás Maduro on January 3, in a military operation ordered by Trump that altered the political landscape in Venezuela, Cuba, Colombia, and Mexico.

Since then, Washington has been overseeing the transition process as power is being reconfigured in the South American country.
