The Government of Costa Rica advised its citizens who are in Cuba to leave the country while commercial flights are available, due to the , electricity, and basic products on the island.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship reported in an official statement that the current situation includes severe limitations on access to food, water, and medications, which also prompted the recommendation to suspend all non-essential travel to Cuba until further notice.

The official notice warns that the possibilities of evacuating Costa Rican citizens, whether residents or tourists, are very limited.

It also points out that currently there are no economic or material resources available to carry out evacuation operations in the event of a major emergency.

The Foreign Ministry urged nationals remaining on the island to consider leaving while commercial flights are still operating, due to the worsening internal conditions caused by the energy crisis and supply shortages.

For consular assistance, the Government indicated that Costa Ricans in Cuba can contact the Costa Rican Consulate General in Havana by email at concr-cu@rree.go.cr or by phone at (0053) 7204-6937 and (0053) 7204-6938.

The warning comes in the context of prolonged blackouts, a lack of fuel, and increasing difficulties in the supply of essential goods in the Caribbean country, a situation that has prompted other governments to closely monitor the evolution of the crisis.

This Sunday, LATAM Airlines Peru joined the list of airlines that have canceled flights to Cuba due to the lack of fuel at the José Martí International Airport in Havana, amidst the deep energy crisis facing the island.

According to the specialized portal Aviacionline, the company suspended its regular operations between Lima and Havana starting February 14, 2026, due to the complete disruption of fuel supply at the Cuban terminal, which prevents normal refueling of the aircraft.
