The American diplomat Mike Hammer celebrated his mother's 91st birthday this Monday and had some words for Cubans separated from their families.
"Celebrating my Mommy's 91st birthday! And thinking about the countless Cubans forcibly separated from their mothers and families," said the head of U.S. diplomacy in Havana in X.
Last week, Hammer was moved by the story of hardship of a 89-year-old Cuban in Holguín and mentioned that it reminded him of his own mother.
The meeting between the diplomat and this elderly Cuban was documented on the X of the U.S. Embassy in Cuba.
"When I was in Cacocum meeting with the beneficiaries of the assistance sent by the Trump Administration through Caritas, I was deeply moved by Cuca's story, which reminded me so much of my own mother, who turns 91 this weekend," wrote Hammer.
The video shows Hammer on a visit, expressing interest in this Cuban woman who lives in a house with a dirt floor and a palm roof, and cooks with firewood.
The woman thanked Hammer for the assistance provided that has helped her survive.
