The U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, stated that no one has an automatic right to receive a visa and warned that his administration will revoke this document for those who engage in activities contrary to national interests.
"I have said this repeatedly. I don’t understand why it is so difficult to comprehend. No one has the right to a visa," Rubio stated while emphasizing that a visa is a permission and not a guarantee.
The head of U.S. diplomacy emphasized that there is no constitutional right to obtain a visa. "A visa is a permit to enter our country as a visitor," he explained, referring to students, tourists, journalists, and other temporary immigration categories.
Rubio warned that if a person enters the United States and engages in activities that go against the national interest or the security of the country, the government will revoke their visa. “If they enter as visitors and engage in activities against the national interest and national security of the United States, we will take away their visa,” he stated.
He even pointed out that, had they been aware of those intentions beforehand, the visa would not have been granted. "In fact, if we had known they were going to do it, we probably wouldn't have given them the visa," he added.
The statements come in a context of tightening immigration policies and increased scrutiny of foreign visitors, aligned with the stance of President Donald Trump's administration to prioritize national security in the issuance and revocation of visas.
