The Cuban gardener Yanquiel Fernández went unclaimed through waivers by any Major League team and accepted his assignment to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, as reported by insider Francys Romero here.

Twenty-three-year-old Fernández was invited to MLB's spring training with the Yankees, an organization that at the beginning of February decided to add young talent and offensive power by claiming him off waivers.

According to Romero, the Cuban outfielder made his Major League debut during the 2025 season with the Colorado Rockies. However, despite his offensive potential, he was unexpectedly removed from the 40-man roster last week, which opened the door for the Yankees to act quickly and add him to their system.

Several scouts believe that Fernández has real potential to become a 20-home-run-per-season hitter in MLB, as long as he continues his development and receives consistent opportunities at the highest level.

For now, the Cuban will continue his journey in Triple-A, aiming to earn a spot on the Yankees' main roster during the season.
