The professor Alina Bárbara López Hernández and the activist Leonardo Romero Negrín returned to their homes on February 18 after several hours of uncertainty, having been reported missing in Matanzas.
The confirmation was provided by Cecilia Borroto López, the daughter of the academic, who informed on social media that they were both already home.
"I don't have any more details because there's barely any Internet connection. I hope that tomorrow they, or in their absence I, can explain how it all happened," wrote Borroto.
He also thanked those who reported and shared the situation: “Cubans are not alone, we have each other.”
Hours earlier, family members had confirmed that López Hernández and Romero Negrín were detained at the Revolutionary National Police (PNR) station in Playa, Matanzas. Authorities refused to provide information via phone about their whereabouts.
In another update, Cecilia Borroto warned that the political police intended to against both, although at that time the specifics had not been clarified.
He also warned about the possible fabrication of a crime to justify the arrest. In his complaint, he states that they were not allowed the presence of a lawyer during the "conversation" at the police station.
The arrest took place in the morning, after López Hernández left his home to carry out his monthly peaceful protest, which he holds every 18th of the month. Family members initially reported that his phone was turned off and that the police did not confirm whether he was in custody.
Alina Bárbara López and Leonardo Romero Negrín have been detained repeatedly for exercising their right to protest in Cuba, always in peaceful ways.
The intellectual is also facing a legal process alongside activist Jenny Pantoja Torres, whose trial was recently suspended without official explanations.
So far, the authorities have not provided a public statement regarding what occurred, nor have they specified whether there were any formal charges. It is expected that in the coming hours, those involved will provide details about the incident.
