The congressman Carlos Giménez stated on two occasions that there are no conversations between Marco Rubio and Raúl Guillermo Rodríguez Castro, grandson of Raúl Castro.

The Cuban-American representative made it known and "confirmed" it on Ninoska Pérez's program on Radio Martí.

Reports about alleged conversations between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Raúl Guillermo Rodríguez Castro, grandson of Raúl Castro known as “El Cangrejo,” have sparked a debate within the Cuban exile community regarding the boundaries of political transition in Cuba.

Axios reported that Rubio has had recent contacts with Rodríguez Castro. The exchanges are ongoing and do not include the ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel, but rather target the environment that Washington considers as the true power in Havana.

Last Wednesday, the Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ernesto Soberón Guzmán, referred to the reports regarding alleged contacts as "speculation"

"Those same media later say that they do not have confirmation of what they are publishing. Therefore, to me, it sounds like speculation. I rely on facts," said the Cuban diplomat to EFE.

The diplomat reiterated that Cuba is "willing to engage in dialogue based on mutual respect, equality of conditions, respect for sovereignty, respect for independence, and non-interference in the internal affairs of countries."

"We do not impose conditions on anyone, but we also do not accept being imposed upon," he said. "History has taught us that dialogue works when it is based on equality and mutual respect, not when there are pressures or impositions," he added.

Soberón's statements were the first from the Cuban government on this delicate issue. The Presidency of the Republic of Cuba has not officially commented on the alleged ongoing dialogue between Rubio and the grandson of the Army General.
