Republican Congressman Carlos A. Giménez demanded an immediate investigation following reports of an armed confrontation in Cuban waters that left four dead aboard a vessel registered in the state of Florida.
Giménez urged U.S. authorities to urgently determine whether any of the victims were citizens or legal residents of the United States and to fully clarify the events that took place near the province of Villa Clara.
"I am calling for an immediate investigation into this massacre. U.S. authorities must determine whether any of the victims were American citizens or legal residents and establish exactly what happened," he stated.
The legislator also stated that the Cuban regime must be " relegated to the dustbin of history for its countless crimes against humanity" and noted that he is closely monitoring the situation.
He also stated that he requested additional information from the Department of State and the U.S. Army to ensure that the case receives the attention it demands.
Previously, Giménez had posted on the social media platform X that the dictatorship in Cuba had attacked a vessel from Florida and killed the people on board, referring to the incident reported by Cuban authorities.
According to an information note from the Ministry of the Interior of Cuba, the incident occurred in the morning of February 25, 2026, when a speedboat registered in the state of Florida, identified as FL7726SH, was navigating approximately one nautical mile northeast of the El Pino channel, in Cayo Falcones, Corralillo municipality, Villa Clara province.
According to the official version, a surface unit of the Border Guard Troops approached the vessel for identification, and gunfire was opened from the boat against the Cuban forces, leading to an exchange of shots.
The official report states that the commander of the Cuban vessel was injured and that four people on board the boat were killed, while another six were injured and received medical attention.
So far, the identities of the deceased have not been disclosed, nor have additional details about the circumstances that led the vessel to enter Cuban territorial waters.
The island's authorities indicated that investigations are ongoing to clarify the incident.
