Armed confrontation in Cuban waters leaves four dead and seven wounded

Aarmed confrontation that took place on the morning of February 25, 2026 in Cuban territorial waters resulted in a preliminary toll of four dead and seven injured, according to a statement released by the Ministry of the Interior (Minint).

According to the information disseminated by the official profile , the authorities detected a speedboat registered in the state of Florida, United States, identified by the number FL7726SH, that was navigating within Cuban waters.

The vessel was located approximately one nautical mile northeast of the El Pino channel, in Cayo Falcones, municipality of Corralillo, Villa Clara province.

The MININT reported that a surface unit of the Border Guard Troops, consisting of five members, approached the vessel to proceed with its identification. According to the official version, gunfire was opened from the "violating" boat against the Cuban border guards.

As a result of the exchange of gunfire, the commander of the Cuban vessel was injured.

The official report adds that, by the time the information was closed, four people on board the boat were killed and six others were injured. The injured were evacuated and received medical assistance, according to the statement.

The Cuban authorities stated that investigations are ongoing to fully clarify the events.

In the statement, the Ministry of the Interior reaffirmed the Cuban state's commitment to "protect territorial waters" and emphasized that national defense is a fundamental pillar for the protection of sovereignty and stability in the region.

So far, no additional details have been provided regarding the identities of the deceased or the circumstances that led to the vessel's incursion into Cuban waters.
