The President of the United States, Donald Trump, referred to Venezuela as a "partner and friend" during his 2026 State of the Union address, where he highlighted energy advancements and the new political landscape following the capture of Nicolás Maduro.
"U.S. oil production has increased by more than 600,000 barrels per day, and we have just received from our new friend and partner, Venezuela, over 80 million barrels of oil," said Trump before Congress.
The leader presented this data as part of the results of his energy policy and his strategy in foreign relations towards Latin America.
Trump also referred to the capture of Nicolás Maduro in January, stating that it not only represented "a victory for the security of the United States," but also "a bright new beginning for the people of Venezuela."
In that context, he confirmed direct contacts with the new leadership in Caracas.
“We are working closely with the new president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, to increase the extraordinary economic gains of our countries and bring new hope to those who truly suffered,” declared Trump.
The president's words mark a turning point in the bilateral relationship and position energy cooperation as a central pillar of the new understanding between Washington and Caracas.
Trump insisted that his administration will continue to promote agreements that strengthen the security and economic prosperity of the United States, while supporting the open transition process in Venezuela following Maduro's departure from power.
