The Kremlin stated that the situation in Cuba is deteriorating and called for restraint following the armed incident that occurred off the island's coast involving a fast boat registered in Florida.
According to a report by Reuters, Cuban forces killed four exiles and injured six others who, according to the official statement from Havana cited by the agency, entered Cuban waters on Wednesday and opened fire on a patrol.
Russia described the incident as an "aggressive provocation by the United States" at a time of increasing tensions with Washington.
The Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, stated to the press that the most important thing is to address the socioeconomic and humanitarian needs of the Cuban people.
"The situation surrounding Cuba, as we can see, is heating up. The main issue is the humanitarian component."
"All humanitarian issues concerning Cuban citizens must be resolved, and no one should create obstacles," stated Peskov.
Regarding security around the island, he noted that it is essential for all parties to act with restraint and refrain from any provocative actions.
Similarly, in December, the government of Russia issued a warning to the Administration of Donald Trump regarding the situation in Venezuela, emphasizing that a "deliberate escalation of tension" could lead to unpredictable consequences for the entire Western Hemisphere.
In an official statement from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, released on December 18, Moscow expressed its "special concern" over the unilateral nature of decisions that, it claimed, pose a threat to international navigation.
