At least some of the six injured who were detained following the shooting off the northern coast of Cuba remain in custody at the Arnaldo Milián Castro Provincial Clinical Surgical Hospital in Santa Clara, as reported by Reuters this Thursday.

Security personnel who prevented Reuters journalists from entering confirmed that the suspects were being held in the hospital, although they did not provide any additional details about their condition or legal situation.
Uniformed troops from the Ministry of the Interior were entering and exiting the medical center.
The incident occurs amid a period of heightened tension between Washington and Havana.
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has tightened economic sanctions against Cuba following the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro on January 3rd.
The Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, stated that his government will independently investigate what happened and that the U.S. embassy in Havana is seeking access to the survivors to determine if any of them are citizens or permanent residents of the United States.
He also stated that it was not an operation of the U.S. government and that no official personnel were involved.
For his part, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel declared that Cuba will defend itself "with determination and firmness" against any aggression that threatens its sovereignty.
According to the official version cited by Reuters, the group consisted of Cuban citizens residing in the United States, and some had previously been sought for allegedly planning violent acts against the country.
