The wife of one of the deceased in the boat incursion off the coast of Cuba spoke with Univisión after the death of her partner was confirmed, describing the day as devastating for the family.

The Monroe County authorities identified him as Héctor Duardy Cruz Cabrera, 42 years old, while the Cuban regime included him this Thursday in their official statement under the name of Héctor Duani Cruz Correa, among the four deceased reported following the maritime confrontation.

According to the report by Univisión, the wife, Yarisleidis, learned of the news in the afternoon. Earlier, she had been interviewed when the death had not yet been confirmed and stated that she had not heard from him since the previous Friday.

"I just reported to the police, I just arrived from Puerto Rico because I am studying in Puerto Rico," he stated.

In the family home in Homestead, she explained that she had no information regarding her husband's possible involvement in any organization.

"No, he doesn't belong to anything; he is the most noble, the healthiest person. He doesn't talk, he doesn't get involved with anyone; the only thing he does is good deeds and work," he stated.

The couple had been together for just over three years and lived with her daughter, who arrived from Cuba three years ago.

The report also states that the theft of the vessel occurred at the marina in Big Pine and that the boat belonged to Ángel Walter Montera, the owner of a house in the Keys where Héctor worked.

When asked about her occupation, the wife indicated that she worked as a bricklayer and carried out maintenance and renovation tasks in that house.

In the interview, Yarisleidis stated that she was unaware if her partner had military experience or connections to groups related to the exile.

"I can't say anything about that, I don't know anything about that. My husband is the calmest, kindest, and best person, the best human being that a mother could ever give birth to," she expressed.

The case is still under investigation both in the United States and in Cuba, where authorities have classified the incident as an attempt at armed infiltration.
